When news came that if you received food stamps you had to be employed or fall into one of the exempt categories a lot of people were happy. Not that if you qualify for help you shouldn't get it, but if you really don't need the assistance you shouldn't get it.I have seen people at the grocery store using food stamps with the freshest hairdo's,nails, toes and the latest fashions on. And they're on food stamps? Let me get off my soapbox and get on with it. According to al.com,

During the economic downturn of 2011-2013, several states - including Alabama - waived the SNAP work requirements in response to high unemployment. It was reinstituted for 54 counties on Jan. 1, 2016 and for the remaining 13 on Jan. 1, 2017.

Now comes news that people got off their collective butts and got jobs and got off food stamps.13 counties in Alabama reported an 85% drop in participation in the food stamp program.According to Alabama DHR spokesperson John Hardy,

Based on the trend, the number of (able-bodied adults without dependents) recipients for SNAP benefits is expected to continue to decline statewide and in the formerly 13 exempted counties

It's about time,if you aren't in need don't take just because it's there, because there may be a time when you DO need that assistance.
