According to Zoo Atlanta officials they are planning to release 9 indigo snakes in Conecuh National Forest in southern Alabama.

The Eastern Indigo Snake is a stout bodied, non-poisonous snake that can grow up seven feet in length. The snake sometimes is mistaken for the black racer or black pine snake.

Zoo Atlanta officials say three of the nine snakes were raised at Zoo Atlanta and about 100 have been released into the forest since the program launched in 2008.

The snakes aren’t considered ready to live in the wild until they are about 18 months old. I hope I never see one.
