A Teenage Couple Is Facing Felony Charges For Taking Nude Selfies

Here’s one that will really make you scratch your head.  Evidently there aren't enough real  criminals to prosecute in North Carolina.

While investigating accusations of statutory rape at Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, N.C., Sheriff’s deputies examined the cellphone of 16-year-old Cormega Copening a star football player.

They found no evidence of statutory rape, what they found were nude photos of Copening and his 16-year-old girlfriend Brianna Denson.

What makes this so crazy is that the photos were consensual.  And they only shared the photos with each other. Yes each other. What’s even crazier is that in North Carolina as far as being charged you are considered an adult at 16.

Now this is where you start scratching your head. He’s accused of exploiting a minor, who just happens to be himself. He is charged with five felony counts of exploiting a minor; one for possessing an explicit photo of his girlfriend, two for taking nude selfies and two for sending them to his girlfriend. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Brianna Denson was charged with two felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor:  one for sending Copening a nude picture of herself and one for taking a nude selfie.  She is facing up to four years in prison if convicted.
