All 21 University of Alabama varsity athletic teams continue to score well above the national cutoff standard in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) the NCAA announced Wednesday. Figures released cover the four-year period extending from the 2010-11 through 2013-14 school years.

"I am very pleased with our continuing success when it comes to APR scores," UA Director of Athletics Bill Battle said. “I feel they serve as a great indicator of the success we are enjoying here at The University of Alabama in terms of our primary mission to recruit and develop student-athletes to compete at the highest levels in intercollegiate athletics, to educate and prepare our student-athletes to compete at the highest levels in life after graduation and to accomplish all this with honor and integrity.”

Overall, 15 Crimson Tide teams posted scores that were above the national average in their respective sports, including 10 that bettered the national average in their sport by more than 10 points. Alabama football scored a 978, which bettered the national average for Football Bowl Series (FBS) teams by more than 18 points.

Alabama ranked second among Southeastern Conference schools with five teams receiving public recognition from the NCAA for their APR scores figuring in the top-10 percentile nationally among teams in those sports, including the 2013 and 2014 NCAA Champion men's golf team, the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Champion gymnastics team, the 2012 NCAA Champion women's golf team, the 2014 SEC Champion women's tennis team and the men’s cross country team.

In addition to national recognition, nine Crimson Tide teams ranked among the top three in their respective sports in the SEC. Gymnastics, men's and women's golf, men’s cross country and women's tennis were all ranked No. 1, football, baseball and men’s outdoor track and field were ranked No. 2 while the Tide was third among the league’s softball teams.

Alabama either matched or exceeded its APR from the year before in 16 sports, including six teams - men's cross country, men's indoor track and field, men's outdoor track and field, gymnastics, women’s indoor track and field and women’s outdoor track and field - that bettered their previous score by at least five points.

The men's cross country, men’s golf, women's golf, gymnastics and women's tennis teams all scored a perfect 1,000 for their four-year score. Those five teams were joined by the 2012 NCAA champion softball team (993), women's cross country (995) and women’s swimming and diving teams (991) among the eight UA programs with scores above 990.

The Alabama baseball (984), men's tennis (984), men’s indoor track and field (982), men’s outdoor track and field (984) and soccer (988) teams were also among the 13 UA teams that posted scores of 980 or better.

"Our APR numbers continue to represent our efforts in the classroom very well," UA Associate Athletic Director for Student Services Jon Dever said. "Five of our sports earned NCAA recognition with perfect four-year scores of 1,000 and 13 teams scored 980 or better. We also saw 14 of our teams better the national average for their sport by five points or more, including 10 - football, men’s basketball, men’s indoor and outdoor track and field, men’s cross country, baseball, women’s tennis, men's and women’s golf, women's tennis and softball – that bettered the national average by a dozen points or more."

Now in its 12th year, the Academic Progress Rate measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. It also serves as a predictor of graduation success. The NCAA's Division I Board of Directors set cut scores of 930 (out of 1,000) as a threshold for teams to meet or face possible immediate and historical sanctions. An APR of 930 translates to approximately a 50 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
