Day two of the NFL Draft has come to a close as only one former member of the Alabama Crimson Tide, running back Eddie Lacy was selected.

Lacy, long projected to be the top running back heading into the 2013 NFL Draft, fell out of the first round and into the late second round, eventually selected by the Green Bay Packers. He was the fourth running back selected behind Giovani Bernard (North Carolina), Le’veon Bell (Michigan State), and Montee Ball (Wisconson).

Lacy was the Offensive MVP of the 2013 Discover BCS National Championships Game. He is the fourth Alabama player to be selected in the second round during head coach Nick Saban’s tenure in Tuscaloosa. Lacy led the Crimson Tide with 1,322 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in 2012 while catching 22 passes for 189 yards and two more scores. He is also the first Alabama player selected by Green Bay since quarterback Jay Barker was taken in the fifth round in 1995.

Offensive Lineman Barrett Jones and Jesse Williams headline the remaining Alabama players not yet drafted. Other notable draft prospects who could go on the third day include Nico Johnson, Robert Lester, and Damion Square.

Eddie Lacy, 61st overall, Green Bay Packers

The 19th ranked player on NFL Network’s Mike Mayock’s board, Lacy, once a possibility to become the third consecutive Alabama running back to go in the first round slipped into the late 2nd round on Friday night.  Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote that Lacy, who was the 4th running back taken, may have slipped due concerns about his health and passion. However with limited carries in his collegiate career, motivation from the fall in the draft, and a selection by one of the NFL’s best franchises-Lacy may go down as one of the draft’s biggest steals.
