According to a report from the Georgetown University Health Policy Center, Alabama leads the South when it comes to providing health insurance to children.

Last year the percentage of children without health insurance in Alabama dropped to 3.8 percent. That’s below the national average of 6 percent.

Alabama coverage rate for children ranks 12 in the country according to the report.

The percentage of children without insurance nationwide plunged from 7.1 percent in 2013 to 6 percent last year. Researchers credited the expansion of Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act for decreasing the nation’s rate of uninsured children.
