Alabama’s longest serving state senator, Hank Sanders, says he is not going to seek a 10th term in office.  That doesn’t mean the Senate will be missing a Sanders in that seat, though.

Senator Sanders’ daughter, Malika Sanders-Fortier, is planning to run for the Senate District 23 seat.

Her father has served the Alabama Senate for 35 years, and according to the Selma Times Journal, he is the only Democrat to decide to not seek re-election.  In addition, Sanders-Fortier is the only candidate from either major political party to have qualified for the June 5 primary before the Friday deadline.
