Alabama Teen In Critical Condition After Spending 2 Years In Basement

A Shelby County couple is being charged with aggravated child abuse, after investigators found their adoptive son in a basement. The fourteen year-old boy had been in the basement for at least two years, and only weighed 55 pounds. He is now in critical condition at a hospital unlisted.

He was barely fed and given water, to make things worse he had a medical condition that was not being treated. His parents took him to the hospital after his condition worsened. The hospital alerted authorities, and the police began their investigation.

The couple was been charged and taken to jail, with bond set at one million dollars.

Police say the couple has another adoptive child who is of legal age that stays in that same home, but was unharmed.

Police say this is the worst case of neglect they have ever seen.
