All Too Familiar Scenes From The Hattiesburg, MS Tornado
The sights and sounds from yesterday’s twister that tore through Hattiesburg, MS hit all too close to home for Tuscaloosa residents. If you were in T-Town on that dreadful day in April, you know that black sky, eerie howl and the unsettling dead silence that follows a tornado.
The single tornado made a path through downtown Hattiesburg and then on to the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. Widespread damage was reported, dozens of injuries and luckily no fatalities.
Now that daylight has shown it’s face on their city, the videos and pictures of what happened are scattered across the internet. Over the next few days news agencies will converge on this small Mississippi college town and clean-up will begin. Let us remember how so many people came to help our small college town after April 27, 2011 and do what we can to help. We’ve shown we can do it as T-Town was well represented in Joplin, MO just a few months after our disaster. Let that not be the end. We know how to recover and we can teach others how to even if we can’t make the drive down south.
We all should know what to do but it never hurts to refresh ourselves. Here is the government’s guide to tornado preparedness.
