I can't count the number of times I've heard these words, "Jade Nicole, I never see you out. But you're always talking about how much you look forward to the weekend. What do you do?" Well, here's how I spent this past weekend.

I had a quiet night at home Friday.  I baked a few cakes to be delivered to someone who'd requested them Saturday morning. After going to meet her, my daughter and I came to the radio station and did my air shift.  Once it ended, I got ready to go to the 2nd Annual Black Rodeo.

I had a remote there. So, my mom brought my daughter up for me.  A number of other family members came along, and we had a great time!

We made it home around midnight, and I got up around 7:00am to go to Plum Grove's 8:45 service, where my brother Romel delivered the sermon.  One of the greatest statements he made that I took with me was "God will FILL the church when the community begins to FEEL the church." I thought that was pretty poignant.

After that service, my sister and I grabbed a bite to eat and then went to Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church where Romel delivered the sermon for their Youth Day.  Now, I've been to churches where there were instruments other than the usual organ, drums, piano, and tambourines. I've seen people play saxophones and even trumpets.  I think this had to be my first time seeing a young man play a violin along with the rest of the band. I was very impressed by Mr. Levert "Trey" Hedgemon, III.

With church ending, it was time to prepare to support my younger brother Jared in a play at the Bama Theater.

"Through Happiness and Pain" was written by Latesha Peebles and included an all-star, local cast! The play was awesome. Another amazing aspect was at the end. After the cast was introduced and Latesha was brought to the stage, she thanked EVERYBODY and also brought other playwrights to the stage. She encouraged the audience to support their works as well.

Following the play, my mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunts, cousin made a stop at Steel City Pops, where we indulged a bit before heading home. By this time, it was after 8:00 and time to prepare for a new work week.

So, I guess to answer the question, I love weekends because that is the time I get to spend with my family doing a variety of events. Weekends help me to reset.
