Apollo Nida of the ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ was sentenced to eight years in prison today.

Nida, who stars on the TV show alongside his wife Phaedra Parks, was arrested in January on charges of mail, wire and bank fraud. According to TMZ, he cashed stolen checks and laundered more than $2.3 million through fake bank accounts.

He originally faced a sentence of 30 years in prison, but his cooperation with federal investigators shortened his time. A Georgia judge finalized his sentence this afternoon (July 8).

Nida’s lawyer told PEOPLE: “On behalf of my client Apollo, right now he feels remorse. He thought the judge was fair, and accepts his sentence, although he was hoping it would be less. … He’s OK, and will get through this.”

The RHOA star isn't a stranger to doing time. He was in prison from 2004 to 2009 on charges of auto title fraud.

Nida and his wife Parks have two young children, Dylan and Ayden.
