According to the Associated Press, an Auburn University lab technician has been charged with selling A GALLON of the date rape drug GHB.

As part of an estimated 6-month investigation, 64-year-old Stephen Howard is said to have sold the chemical to an uncover agent this month. He was arrested at his Auburn home Friday. Luckily, so far, no Auburn University students have been identified as victims of the drugs Howard allegedly sold, according to AL.com, but anyone who might have been a victim of the date rape drug in the Auburn area is asked to call the Auburn Police Investigative Division at 334-501-3140.

It’s a sad state of affairs when women not only have to take extra safety precautions when traveling alone but also in knowing that a substance which could cause us to willingly compromise ourselves, although unknowingly, can be so easily obtained. Most employers conduct background investigations prior to hiring. So, it is unlikely that anything like this came up in Howard’s check, or there’s no way he would have been trusted with the ability to make purchases under the institution’s license. What could cause a person in such a position to go rogue, we may never know.
