This sounds like something you would see in the movies that you would not to try at home.  A bank robber survived a 200 foot plus fall down a garbage chute.

This dude jumped from the 21^st floor of an apartment building to avoid being captured by the police.  Luckily he landed in a garbage compactor that cushioned his fall.  He did sustain serious injuries. Get the full details here.
