Kyle Messier had the best excuse of all for not showing up for work this week. "I guess you could say I called in rich," he said. OK, so it wasn't exactly, "Take this job and shove it." But Messier had $67,500 worth of reasons to walk away from his fast-food job, as that was his after-taxes take from the winning $100,000 Idaho Lottery scratch ticket he bought at a grocery store. He had a 1-in-121,850 shot of winning and, Messier noted, "about six years of salary at my old job." And he already knows where it's going: The winnings will fund his trade school tuition and his fiancee's education. Plus, he no longer has to ask anyone if they want fries with that.
