According to the Pew Research Center, Americans fare horribly answering general science questions, averaging a grade of 'D'.

3,278 randomly selected U.S. adults were surveyed online and by mail between Aug. 11 and Sept. 3, 2014. Most respondents were able to answer basic questions related to the earth's core and the element required to make nuclear energy but things seemed to go off the rails once the subject of sound waves was broached.

According to the published report "What Americans Know And Do Not Know About Science", 'Just 35% correctly answer amplitude, or height. Some 33% incorrectly say it is frequency and 23% say it is wavelength. And just 34% correctly state that water boils at a lower temperature in a high-altitude setting (Denver) than near sea level (Los Angeles).'

I answered 10 out of 12 correctly but had I not worked in radio, I doubt I would have been able to correctly answer the questions related to sound.

If you'd like to take the quiz for yourself, you can do so here.
