Candice Glover Channels Aretha Franklin on ‘American Idol’

FOX

For most singers on ‘American Idol,’ doing an Aretha Franklin song is a big task. But not for Candice Glover.

Knowing her voice and capabilities as a singer, she knew this song would fit her well and that she could do Aretha justice. Mariah Carey especially enjoyed it. “I definitely agree that you are a bona fide singer, and that is what this competition is all about,” the ‘Always Be My Baby’ singer said.

Doing what she does best, Johnson made a few changes to the arrangement of the song to highlight her strengths as a singer, and it payed off big time as she was selected to go on to the next round.
