Last night was the first Friday of the month, which means the doors of Archibald and Woodrow's on McFarland Blvd E opened for Steve Brown's Funny First Friday! Even with the Old School Summer Fest concert at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, there wasn't an empty seat in the restaurant!

The show began with comedian Terry Tee bringing numerous comics to the stage to perform, giving them the opportunity to hone their craft. Some cracked under pressure and quickly left the stage, but others stayed the course.  I love it when comedians can make fun of their own afflictions rather than pity themselves. Such was the case with Lamar Pullom!

Pullom is a little person. He made all kinds of height jokes and had the crowd laughing uncontrollably.  Somehow, I think it's easier to laugh WITH a person, and he made sure we did.

Another very funny comic was Rocky Davis!

He had no problem discussing the difference between races.... Or the fact that he's attracted to black women but won't date one as long as his grandfather is alive. HILARIOUS!!! We all have that relative that would disown us for dating interracially, but when it's a grandparent.... Yeah, not really willing to upset that one.

Terry Tee, though he didn't have a full set, was a very funny host.  He acknowledged the fact that his mother was in the audience. So, he was trying not to be too disrespectful. He also brought her on stage to show his love for her BEFORE he went back to work!

Local rapper Farouche was the musical entertainment.

Once Chris "Set It Off" Jones hit the stage, it was a wrap!

The fact that he's from Aliceville and the building was filled with Aliceville natives and those with ties to his family made EVERY joke hilarious because most people knew the characters he discussed.  Of course, he exaggerated a little-- Ok, a lot ....Ok, he did a lot of lying on people, but that's beside the point.  This was one time I was happy the lights were low.  I KNOW I laughed until I was red in the face and tears streamed!

Towards the end of the show, Steve Brown (who'd just finished a show at the Stardome) came in.

Both Chris Jones and Steve dedicated the show to barber Maurice Hodges, whose son passed two weeks ago.  Yet, he and his family (he and Chris are cousins) came out to support the show. Steve thanked the crowd for coming to Funny First Friday and invited everyone to join him at the Stardome for his Saturday and Sunday shows.

All in all, it was a great night of entertainment for Tuscaloosa; and it takes place every first Friday of the month!
