I can remember eating food that most would describe as "southern," even when we lived in Chicago.  It wasn't until I worked at UPS that I realized these foods may have been foreign to the North.  Customers would ship things like sweet potatoes, collard greens, grits, and even pecans. However, although there are some foods that are "southern," some things are just plain country.
