Dr. J (Julius Erving) recently did an interview with the Tom Joyner Morning Show, to discuss his new autobiography, "Dr. J: The Autobiography."  (Wow! What a creative title!) In this book he gets down to the nitty gritty, discussing his career, a tumultuous marriage, extra marital affairs, and even the conception of a child as a result of his cheating-- AND THIS is the part of the interview that has many "fans" upset.

For whatever reason, Dr. J. decided to provide the details of his child's conception as an encounter with her mom where oral sex should have taken place but because she'd had a dental issue, they had intercourse. This is when his daughter, tennis player Alexandra Stevenson, is supposed to have been conceived.

As one would imagine, this revelation has caused many hurt feelings.  For one, Stevenson is said to have received financial support as a means of remaining a secret.  If being kept a secret wasn't bad enough, to have the world know that your conception came about ONLY as a result of your mother being unable to provide "special attention"  and the fact that this revelation was made clear at the hands of your father HAS TO BE hurtful.

However, Erving contends that he was only being honest and says that with honesty, some feelings are bound to be hurt.  I understand his point, but there's sometimes a fine line between being candid and providing too much information. What do you think? Should he have left it at the fact that his daughter was a result of an affair, or did we really need those details?
