It may be the biggest contradiction going, diet drinks will make you eat more! This is the finding from researchers at John Hopkins University who studied overweight people over an extended period of time. But, does it makes sense? It does for me.

Think about it, there are plenty of people with the mindset that by getting the 'diet drink,' then it's ok to order large! Well, the study follows the same path.

Although overweight and obese adults who drink diet soda eat a comparable amount of total calories as heavier adults who drink sugary beverages, they consume significantly more calories from solid food at both meals and snacks. -Lead study author Sara Bleich, associate professor in the Bloomberg School's Department of Health Policy and Management.

Then you have the people who proclaim to be on this amazing diet and that mainly consists of diet drinks. Hey, it does say 'diet!'

What do think about all of this diet drink talk and eating more? There is suggestion from the research that artificial sweeteners may affect people's metabolism or cravings, although more study is needed. But, it is acknowledged that people could be deciding to eat more since they are saving calories with their diet drinks.

One thing is for sure, where would the world be without the 'Diet Coke and Mentos' experiment? Yes, the experiment where you drop the candy into the soda bottle which creates a cool beverage volcano.

The below video shows a little girl so excited to record herself trying the experiment, but it backfired!
