In a historic decision Tuesday afternoon, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the league has banned Donald Sterling for life from the Los Angeles Clippers organization following racist statements made on a recording last week.

Silver took the stage for the highly-anticipated announcement and told the media in attendance that the NBA completed an investigation into the audio recordings released by TMZ. Silver confirmed that the man making the offensive remarks was indeed Sterling and that he found them 'highly offensive.'

Along with being banned for life, Sterling was fined the maximum amount of $2.5 million and could be forced to sell his franchise dependent on an owner's vote.
