A-Day is upon us, which means Tuscaloosa's population will swell by at least 75,000--which could make for some traffic delays this weekend. Are you ready?

You may have a preferred route for getting to Bryant-Denny (especially if you live in town), but that traditional route may need a bit of tweaking. There is a lot of road construction in and around Tuscaloosa, so planning to circumvent work zones could save you from a traffic jam.

ALDOT has been working on 20/59 for the past few months; crews are widening the interstate beginning near the first Cottondale exit (Exit 79). Due to the work zone, traffic is reduced to two lanes, and the speed limit is 45 MPH. All of this has the potential to create some pretty crazy delays, so if you normally take Exit 79 and US 11 to the University, you'll probably want to plan another route.

Try taking the Mercedes Exit to get on US 11, and then you'll be on your way.

One more obstacle: University Boulevard. Crews have been working to replace the bridge in Alberta, so you won't be able to get to UA by taking University Boulevard. If you're traveling from Five Points, use Veteran's Memorial Parkway to continue on 15th Street and then on to campus. You could also stay on University Boulevard until you reach the Tuscaloosa Police Station--take a right to follow the detour signs, and you'll be routed to the Jack Warner Parkway--you can get to campus from there.

If you're planning to take 359 to get in to Tuscaloosa, be aware of road construction there, too; the speed limit is reduced to 45, which can create heavy traffic on the highway.
