According to an email from the Children's Organ Transplant Association, $50,000 is being raised by volunteers in Gordo to assist in providing transplants for people like 22-year-old Libby Hankins, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

The Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity which works to help communities raise funds for transplant-related expenses, which are said to often exceed $500,000.

Libby just received a double-lung transplant on April 17, 2016. Of course, this does not mean expenses end there. This is where volunteers are needed to help with fundraising. Donations are being accepted by mail at the following address:

Children's Organ Transplant Association
2501 West COTA Drive,
Bloomington, Indiana 47403

Checks or money orders should be made to COTA with "In Honor of Libby H" in the memo line. In addition, online donations are accepted at www.COTAforLibbyH.com. One hundred percent of all funds raised are used for patients' transplant-related expenses.

Those interested in obtaining more information about how to raise funds, whether an individual or group, may contact Community Coordinator Laurel Campbell at (205) 292-2121.
