It’s a melody recognized by people from various backgrounds, and when it begins, the pride within bursts through.  Whether you’re a fan of country music, rock, R&B, rap, or even gospel, when you hear, “1-2-3” and the guitar, there’s no other place you’d rather be from than Alabama.

Sad news to report: One of the writers of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s  “Sweet Home Alabama” has died.  Guitarist Ed King is quoted as saying, “I am the luckiest guitar player that ever lived. Who could’ve guessed that song would pay the rent for over 30 years?”

In just a few weeks, the crowd will roar when his infamous sound is played over Bryant-Denny stadium. Hopefully, King is in a place where he can hear it and know that not only was his work not in vain but that he has given Tide fans an anthem that will be belted out for generations to come. Rest well, Mr. King.
