Those who haven't enlisted often see Veteran's Day not only as a day off but also as a day set aside to honor those who've served our country, but it's much more.

In honoring service members and thanking them for their service, it's important to remember some of the lasting effects they'll take with them the rest of their lives.

Some regret having spent so much time away from their families. Others have conditions like PTSD and OCD. Some are extremely meticulous and disciplined to the degree that they expect everyone to be so.

What they all are is courageous, selfless, sacrificial, and loving.

We have set aside one day per year to recognize our veterans, but our gratitude for their service should always be carried in our hearts.
