I know I'm not the only one who has this to happen. Every now and then, I'll be in discussion with someone who will interrupt our conversation to "review" a word I've used.

It would be different if I was talking about seemingly uncommon words like "xenophobia,"  "antidisestablishmentarianism," or even "asexuality." But I'm talking about words like "nestled" and "translucent."

I know that we use some words more often than others, but has the American English language become so simple that we are captivated when words that more accurately express our thoughts are used?
