Today is a day I always try to celebrate, National French Fry Day. First what is a french fry? Is it from France? Originally fried strips of potatoes were named pomme frites.

The origins are disputed as to whether it was originated in Belgium, Denmark, or Scandinavia. What we here in US call french fries are also known as chips in the U.K.,and Papas fritas in Spain.

Whatever the name you call them wherever you have them there is one constant....They are delicious.

Whether with just salt or with ketchup, or as in Canada with gravy and cheese curds (called Putin) they are an iconic dish that is known all over the world.

So go out and celebrate National French Fry Day and enjoy.
