J. Cole Says We Need to ‘Protect Jemele Hill’ Following ESPN Suspension

ESPN commentator Jemele Hill has been suspended from the network for tweets she posted on Sunday in which she criticized Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones.

Jones told players that if they “disrespected” the flag they couldn’t play, and Hill criticized the policy, saying he “created a problem for his players, specifically the black ones.”

“If they don’t kneel, some will see them as sellouts,” Hill wrote. “If you strongly reject what Jerry Jones said, the key is his advertisers. Don’t place the burden squarely on the players.”

She followed up her comments by clarifying that she was not calling for a boycott of the NFL but that wasn’t enough for the network, who suspended her for two weeks for a “second violation of our social media guidelines.”

Of course, the network was heavily criticized for its decision, with many people declaring that they “stand with Jemele.” The suspension comes just weeks after Hill criticized Donald Trump on Twitter, to which the president somehow found the time to respond, as he did to her suspension early this morning (Oct. 10).

“With Jemele Hill at the mike [sic], it is no wonder ESPN ratings have ‘tanked,’ in fact, tanked so badly it is the talk of the industry!” the president wrote on Tuesday morning.

J. Cole, who has called for a boycott of the NFL and has been a huge supporter of Colin Kaepernick’s protest for social justice, is among those supporting Hill. Yesterday he wrote simply, “Protect @Jemele Hill.”
