Southern soul recording artist J-Wonn made an impromptu visit to the WTUG studio this week. So, I did what I do best: Made him comfortable enough to start talking.

Now, we held a good bit of conversation that wasn't recorded, but I there are some things I wanted you to hear from his mouth.

If you haven't heard his latest single, "I Need a Grown Woman," here it is:

J-Wonn is one for whom we will definitely keep a watch for years to come. But while he was here, he asked me a pretty good question.  What he wanted to know is who is the independent artist that is Alabama's beloved?  For instance, in Louisiana, there were the artists that signed with No Limit Records and Cash Money Records.  Mississippi has a few artists across various genres, probably starting with The Canton Spirituals, the Jackson Southernaires, the Mississippi Mass Choir.  Southern soul artists include J-Wonn, of course, and Vick Allen.

If we had to name one artist that gets crazy love across the state and who could travel to surrounding states, where people would know him/her as "the Alabama superstar," who would it be?
