Jay Z is caught in a heated controversy about his relationship with luxury retailer Barneys New York after allegations of racial profiling.

According to the New York Daily News, three black shoppers were racially profiled after legally purchasing items at the high-end store. The newspaper cites that 19-year-old Trayon Christian was one of the alleged victims. He was apparently handcuffed and detained by police after using his debit card to buy a $349 Ferragamo belt.

Hov has partnered with Barneys for a special holiday collection featuring many high-end items. The collection includes a black leather backpack, a black square-print scarf, a hoodie, a tailored jacket, a black leather duffel with faux crocodile trim and an 18-karat-gold double ring. The recent controversy has sparked outrage on social media as many are petitioning for the Brooklyn rapper to cut ties with Barneys.

Some celebrities have decided to speak out. "Looks like I'm going to have to put #Barneys on time out. This #ShoppingWhileBlack is out of hand." tweeted Star Jones.

Activist Al Sharpton is slated to meet with Barneys' CEO Mark Lee, who has since apologized for the treatment of those customers profiled for making expensive purchases. "No customer should have the unacceptable experience," Lee said in a statement.
