As Straight Outta Compton continues to go strong at the box office, it was only a matter of time before Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake traveled down hip-hop’s memory lane in another edition of “The History of Rap.”

The longtime collaborators and friends teamed up for the sixth time on Wednesday night (Sept. 9) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Clearly coming ready to party, the dynamic duo started with “Fiesta” by R. Kelly and Jay Z before moving through ’80s and ’90s hip-hop favorites until they reached the song of the moment: N.W.A.’s “Straight Outta Compton.” But before Fallon could channel his best Eazy-E, the Justified creator had to stop him.

“We’ve been through this before. You are not straight outta Compton. You are straight outta upstate New York,” said Timberlake. Fallon responded with the explanation: “I just thought with the movie being what it is and all. Everybody is talking about it.” But his explanation fell on deaf ears before they went for the next song: “Let’s Talk About Sex” by Salt-N-Pepa.

One of the best moments occurred when The Tonight Show host rapped Busta Rhymes’ verse from “Look at Me Now,” only to be met with an impressed Timberlake. Another was when Fallon recited “Lick your boom boom down” from Snow’s “Informer” — JT and the Roots shook their heads in disapproval. They also did another R. Kelly song, “Ignition (Remix),” complete with accompanying dance moves for “rolling that body” and “so what I’m drunk.”

While Kendrick Lamar was performing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the two took on “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.” Well, Fallon sang the chorus while Timberlake mixed in Drake’s “Know Yourself.” The two united once again for the clean version of Big Sean’s “I Don’t F— With You,” followed by Fetty Wap’s “My Way” and Ace Hood’s “Bugatti,” featuring Future and Rick Ross.

The set ended with another classic party anthem: Beastie Boys’ “Fight For Your Right.”
