Kelis gave her hometown fans a show to remember at Webster Hall in New York City Friday night (June 13). The singer graced the stage for a stop on her tour in support of her new album, ‘Food.’ By the looks of the packed venue, it was clear that her fans were hungry to see her perform.

She kicked off the set with an a cappella snippet of Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good.’ The songstress moved into new tracks ‘Breakfast’ and performed more upbeat tracks ‘Jerk Ribs’ and ‘Friday Fish Fry,’ which had hips shaking. She also took things slow with newer tunes ‘Rumble,’ ‘Hooch’ and ‘Runnin’.’ A highlight of the night was Kelis wowing the audience by reaching the higher notes in ‘Cobbler.’

Her voice is only part of what makes her show special. Throughout the night, Kelis sincerely spoke to her fans, appreciating their presence at the show. The fashionista, who donned a sparkling purple gown with big, beautiful Diana Ross-like hair, complimented those in the crowd on their style choices and even took a few selfies with fans. She also pointed out fans who follow her on Instagram as well as those who have showed up to numerous shows.

The sultry singer even revealed a lyric book onstage, which she occasionally referred to in order to help her remember some songs. Her stage presence is honest, warm and real which is why fans continue to pack in to see her live.

Before the show was over, Kelis took it back to 1999, as she performed ‘Get Along With You’ and went into ‘Good Stuff,’ off of her debut LP, ‘Kaleidoscope.’ The floors in Webster Hall shook as hits such as ‘Milkshake,’ ‘Millionaire’ and ‘Trick Me’ filled the venue. The versions of these notable songs are even better in the flesh, especially with the force of a talented live band backing her.

The night concluded as fans bounced to ‘Acapella’ off of her previous album ‘Flesh Tone’ and she ended where she began with Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good.’ It’s difficult not to feel good and leave with a smile after watching Kelis. It was obvious the New York crowd was happy to see their girl from Harlem return home.
