Attention shoppers, the blue light special is a total liquidation! Soon, the Kmart store in Northport will close its doors forever.

Sears Holdings, the parent company of Kmart confirmed closing plans with The Tuscaloosa News. The store with 68 employees, plans to begin its liquidation sale on June 22nd, with the store closing in early September. It's a part of the struggling company's plans to shut down a dozen stores in 2014. The Tuscaloosa store on Skyland Boulevard will remain open, and will end up as the only location in West Alabama.

The Northport Kmart has been there for quite some time, and I'm sure loyal shoppers are deeply disappointed by the news. I wish only the best for the employees in their search for new jobs.

If the store is closing, that means sales have been underperforming. Which makes me ask, did you shop there? Also, moving forward, what should move into that prime retail location?
