Nelly got a scare this morning (Oct. 10) when police detained him and his seven-person entourage at a border control checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas. While the 'Hot in Herre' rapper didn't comment on the allegations earlier when news broke, he's now releasing a statement on the incident.

Some backstory first: Cops found tiny bags of heroin, over 10 pounds of marijuana and a loaded gun after police dogs alerted them to the substances. Bryan Keith Jones admitted that drugs and gun were his, and Nelly and the rest of the crew were let go. Jones was taken to jail awaiting release on bond.

Now that you know all that, Nelly released a statement to TMZ about the scare. “It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning," he (or, more likely, his attorney or PR rep) told TMZ in a statement. "Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual.”

Further, even though law enforcement confirmed that tests proved that the substances in the tiny bags were heroin, sources close to Nelly insist that it was "molly," a nickname given to ecstasy. Either way, it's illegal!
