Holt residents have waited a long time for a new Holt High School to be built.
Holt High is the oldest school in the Tuscaloosa County School System. It was rebuilt in 1941 after the original school was destroyed in a fire.
According to myfoxal, com, Holt residents have campaigned for a new building for several years. They have shown up at board meetings demanding a new building, signed numerous petitions, protested by using photos of dilapidated areas of the school, started organizations and social media chat groups about the need for a new school and held countless meetings with school officials.

With Christmas nearing, they got their wish.
At Monday’s Tuscaloosa County Board of Education meeting, the board unanimously selected a site where the new Holt High will be built. By next Christmas they hope to break ground on the property.
