Nick Saban Pleased with Team’s Progress Following 2016 A-Day Game

Nick Saban's 10th spring at The University of Alabama came to a close on Saturday as defense dominated on A-Day.

The White team, led by the first-team defense, held onto a 7-3 win in front of 76,212 fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium. While there were some positives on offense, the biggest takeaway was that a defense that lost three probable first round NFL Draft picks might be even better than it's national championship unit in 2015.

Following the game, Saban spoke to reporters about the team's performance.

“I think there were some good things out there today, and obviously some things we could’ve done better, but I think when you match yourself against yourself, you know, sometimes there’s mismatches that you really can’t overcome," Saban said.

There might not be much more clarity at the quarterback position than there was in March, but Saban was pleased with the steps forward the team took over the past three weeks.

“All in all, I think we’ve had a good spring. We’ve made progress and we have a lot of parts that need to come together. Some were absent today. Some will be new players coming in. How those players fit in and get embraced by the rest of our team and the leadership of our team will go long ways in how many of those guys really contribute."

Alabama will finish out the spring semester and continue offseason workouts until fall camp opens in August.
