Northport Fire Rescue has added an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) or “drone” to their Special Operations Unit which Captain Jason Norris said provides firefighters with  'capabilities that we previously never had.'

The newly-acquired UAV can assist with:

-Hazardous materials responses
-Identification from safe distances
-Inspections of large buildings, particularly roofs
-Visibly see integrity of large structure roofs and other parts of the structure for firefighter safety
-Disaster survey of areas unreachable by foot
-Lost persons
-Survey of the river during an emergency
-Other special operations

There will be a live demonstration on Wednesday, August 27th at 09:30am at NFR Fire Station #4 (4900 Rose Blvd) Located beside Tuscaloosa County High School.
