It seems like only yesterday when ‘American Idol‘ star Pia Toscano signed her recording contract with 19 Recordings and Interscope, but now the singer has revealed that she is no longer with the label.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Toscano says her debut album has been delayed because of a “difference of opinion,” and she had hoped it would be out for the fall. “It makes sense for me because I really want to get my music out there,” she says of the split. “It’s been a little while, yes, but to be honest, I’m happy for this delay because I don’t think I was ready for it when this all started happening.”

There’s no sour grapes for the Howard Beach, N.Y. native, as she still calls Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine “an incredible mentor.” She adds, “He’s so great at what he does. I am blessed to have that [experience] as part of my life.”

The 23-year-old Season 10 contestant is still working with the The Underdogs on her debut, and would like to channel “pop artists with soul,” such as Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera. As for when fans will see her full-length on shelves, Toscano says she plans on releasing her album when the “timing is right.”
