Questlove Pays Tribute to His Father Lee Andrews Who Passed Away [PHOTO]

We have sad news to report. Questlove’s father, Lee Andrews, the frontman of the Philadelphia doo wop group Lee Andrews & The Hearts, passed away on Wednesday (March 17). He was 79.

The Roots drummer went on his Instagram account to pay tribute to his late father, whom he called the "Greatest Teacher in my life."

"I love you," he writes in the caption as he recalls every moment he shared with his dad.

"For every backstage experience. For every drum lesson. For giving me your tireless work ethic. For our father & son record binging expeditions. For our arguments over the summer I discovered #ItTakesANationOfMillions. For the look on your face when I told you 'imma give this rap thing a try' (I waited til our 2nd album to have this convo btw)," he continues. "For the look on your face 5 years later when I told you 'you don't have to work no more.' For the look on your face when a year later I was like 'Seriously dad, you don't have to work anymore!'"

Questo concluded with thanking his father for his mom and sister and understanding why he had to be so strict on him when he was a teenager.

"For bringing my mom & my sister into my life. For the years we fell out. For the years we put it back together. But really, for the last 2 conversations we had. I understand why you were so hard on me praying I didn't succumb to a fate not meant for a teenager in west philly in the mid 80s. I didn't understand it at the time. But I appreciate it now. I hope Donn & I do you proud. #LeeAndrewsAndTheHearts"

For those who may not be familiar with Lee Andrews & The Hearts, they were a popular Philadelphia vocal group formed by Andrews in 1953. Their biggest hits came in 1957 and 1958 with "Long Lonely Nights" (which they performed on the fifth national episode of American Bandstand), "Tear Drops" and "Try the Impossible."

The Hearts broke up in 1959, but Andrews continued to tour under different variations of the Hearts moniker. In the late 1960s, Andrews went into semi-retirement and opened up a dress shop.

In 1992, the Hearts were inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance’s Walk of Fame, which took place on the same day as the Roots recording their first demo. When the Roots were inducted into the Walk of Fame last October, Questlove and Andrews became the first father-and-son duo to be enshrined on the Walk.
