R&B didn't disappoint last year. Beyonce delivered a surprise self-titled album -- and broke a few records -- just before the close of 2013, and Justin Timberlake made a remarkable comeback with his chart-topping opus, 'The 20/20 Experience.' While these two projects skyrocketed to the top of the charts, there were others that made a distinct mark upon release. Ten nominees compete in the R&B Album of the Year category for The Boombox Fan Choice Awards, but only one can be given the distinct honor.

K. Michelle's debut LP, 'Rebellious Soul,' was a showcase of her powerhouse vocals and touched on the many facets of relationships. Grammy-nominated singer Tamar Braxton delivered an emotional mix of love stories on the aptly-titled sophomore effort 'Love and War' and Fantasia wasn't afraid to bare her soul on 'Side Effects of You.'

Newcomer Mack Wilds, who comes from an acting background, won over many skeptics when he released his golden era-inspired debut 'New York: A Love Story,' which earned him a Grammy nomination this year. Robin Thicke, who's also a 2014 Grammy nominee, impressed with 'Blurred Lines,' which housed one of the best songs of the year (with the same name), and the Robert Glasper Experiment brought jazz to the forefront by mixing in elements of R&B and hip-hop on 'Black Radio 2.'

John Legend offered a soulful, piano-driven project with 'Love in the Future' -- thanks to poignant songs like 'Made to Love' -- while the Weeknd brought listeners on a journey through his beautiful, yet dark world with his debut album, 'Kiss Land.'
