R&B Artist of the Year was one of the more widely competitive categories in The Boombox Fan Choice Awards as each nominee had a legit shot at winning. This category was won by a landslide, however. R. Kelly earned over 50 percent of your votes to take the title.

Fantasia, who released 'Side Effects of You' in 2013, came in second with 29.41 percent of the votes.

R. Kelly steadily caught attention in the fall of 2013 as he promoted his 'Black Panties' album. Leading singles 'Genius' and 'Cookie' further revealed that the singer's 12th effort wasn't going to be for the kids. The album brought R. Kelly back to his '12 Play' heyday after his last two albums ('Love Letter,' 'Write Me Back') delved in less lustful soul.

'Black Panties' debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and has sold over 300,000 copies since.

Again, R. Kelly had some stiff competition with Justin Timberlake releasing two platinum-selling albums and Beyonce breaking the Internet with her surprise release. But the man made a panty-dropper using the Italian Hero Sandwich of Love as a focus. The Pied Piper of R&B is a champ.
