A group called Raise Up Alabama plans to hold a rally in Tuscaloosa to raise the minimum wage. The goal, raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $15 per hour.

The Raise Up Facebook page has posted the local rally will be held at McDonald's on 12th Street in T-Town at Noon today (Sept. 24). The group feel momentum building after having success in Birmingham, as the city council approved a raise. The first bump will come in July of 2016 with a new minimum wage in the city at $8.50, and second bump to $10.10 is planned to take place in July of 2017.

This is not just an Alabama thing, as several events have been or are in the works across the South.

The Raise Up for 15 website explains:

Fast food and low wage workers, mostly adults with families, and those who support us are fighting for the just compensation and dignified treatment that all hardworking Americans deserve. We demand a fair wage of $15 an hour and the right to form a union without retaliation so we can support our families, strengthen our economy, and improve our communities.
