After much discussion and a full week of monitoring 8 intersections in Tuscaloosa, the first red light camera went up today on 15th Street.

The cameras are being installed by Gatso USA who will also monitor all incidents then transmit them to the Tuscaloosa Police Department for review before mailing out any citations.

The maximum fine has been set at $110 for a red light violation. $70 will go to the city, a $10 fee will go for record keeping and Gatso will receive the final $30 per paid ticket.

The cameras will operate for 30 days before traffic incident reporting will begin.
