Sara Stokes, Former MTV Reality Star, Slaps BET With Lawsuit

Former Da Band singer Sara Stokes is keeping it real...legal. The former MTV reality TV star is sung BET for defamation after appearing on the reality series, From the Bottom Up.

According to TMZ, the singer-songwriter filed a lawsuit claiming that BET approached her while she was in a Michigan jail and promised that should could re-write her story for a new Queen Latifah-produced reality show.

Stokes alleges that positive footage from her life was edited from the series and she was labeled a “man beater.”

Stokes’ legal team believes the show did more damage than good and ruined their client’s commercial appeal. They are seeking damages related to defamation of character.

The series From the Bottom Up airs on Centric, a channel owned by BET that advertises as “The First Network Designed for Black Women.”

On Friday (Feb. 26), Stokes went on Instagram to share a photo of former BET CEO Robert L. Johnson with the caption, “It’s not the same anymore....”

Attorneys for BET had no comment on the matter.
