See If You Can De-Cipher These ‘Fate of the Furious’ Facts

Subscribe to on

If you saw The Fate of the Furious over the weekend, you saw its fun opening race, set in Havana, Cuba. But did you know the eighth Fast & Furious was the first Hollywood movie in decades to shoot on the island? It’s true; and it’s just one of the facts featured in the latest installment of You Think You Know Movies!

The Havana scene is part of the film’s attempt to honor one of the wishes of the late Paul Walker, who died during the shooting of the previous Fast adventure, Furious 7. Walker wanted the series to get back to its roots in street racing, and the producers (including Vin Diesel) decided to oblige by including scenes like the Cuban chase. The massive sub chase that concludes the film was shot in Iceland, where one special effect included the largest explosion in the country’s history. (That’s a big explosion.)

You Think You Know Movies? is a ScreenCrush original series that dives deep into the cinematic worlds of your favorite movies and freeze frames a few tidbits you might not have known. We’ve already tackled Star Wars, The Avengers and Spider-Man, but this time we’re taking our foot off the tiger’s neck for some Fate of the Furious facts. Watch more installments of ‘You Think You Know Movies?’ below and let us know in the comments what movies we should cover next!
