Over 800 Alabama residents could face eviction from public housing under a new proposal aimed to cut off assistance for higher-earning individuals.

According to al.com,the Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced a new proposal aimed at reducing the number of "over-income" tenants who live in government-assisted homes.

As of now, federal law requires people to meet income requirements when they move in to government-assisted housing but are not forced to leave if their income grows past the threshold.

HUD is looking to limit public housing to those households that actually require housing assistance.
