State’s Tax Free Weekend dates changed this year!

For the FIRST time ever, Alabama's Back to School Tax Free weekend will be held in JULY!

In the 12 years that Alabama's been holding this event, it's been held on the first weekend in August.

Alabama's Back to School Tax Free Weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, and ends at midnight Sunday July 23, 2017,

During the holiday weekend, more than 300 cities and counties throughout Alabama  has waived their local taxes on most back-to-school items for that particular weekend. Northport,Tuscaloosa and Tuscaloosa County are all participating, as well as most counties and municipalities in West Alabama.

Here are some of the things you can take advantage of purchasing, tax free.

most clothing items,

computers and software,

backpacks,

calculators,

writing utensils and more.

But the most surprising thing to me that you can get this weekend, tax free is DIAPERS! They qualify as tax-free because they are considered “apparel”, so that’s a popular item during this weekend.
