A government shutdown Oct.1st could immediately suspend or delay food stamp payments to some of the 46 million Americans who receive the aid.

Stories surrounding SNAP benefits have been all over the place since last week's reveal that Missouri Rep. Rick Brattin sponsored a bill to remove certain foods from purchase with SNAP assistance. Now, one celebrity has thrown herself into the middle of the controversy.

On Saturday, two Louisiana Walmart stores had their grocery shelves cleaned out by food-stamp recipients whose benefit cards briefly had their spending limits removed. Walmart may end up footing most of the bill because it chose not to implement emergency procedures that would have stopped all purchases at $50.
