The City of Tuscaloosa will host the 10th annual Mayor’s Cup 5K for Pre-K on Saturday, April 23. To celebrate its 10th year, the Mayor’s Cup will also include a 10k option for those wanting an extra challenge.

The race aims to increase awareness and raise funds for the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. Last year more than 1,200 people registered. Since it began, the race has raised a total of $172,000 to support over 250 at-risk preschoolers in Tuscaloosa.

The race will start and end at Government Plaza behind City Hall. The route will go through downtown and will cross through the Walk of Champions on the University of Alabama campus.

There will be an after-race event, dubbed Post-K, where certain downtown businesses will provide deals on merchandise, food and drinks to participants who present their race bibs. The Mayor’s Cup 5K is a Grand Prix event registered with the Tuscaloosa Track Club, and awards will be given. Timing chips attached to race bibs will be used to determine race results.

Registrants receive a performance race t-shirt and a potential to win door prizes. There will also be family-friendly activities on site, including photo opportunities and a DJ to play upbeat tunes after the race.

The registration fee for the 5k is $20 now until March 31 and will increase to $25 April 1-23. The registration fee for the 10k is $30 now until March 31 and increase to $35 April 1-23.
