I was waiting on someone to challenge the constitutionality of the system of automated cameras at nine traffic lights in Tuscaloosa.  A Tuscaloosa attorney has done just that.

According to the city of Tuscaloosa both the violation and the fines are civil.  But a Northport man is challenging that assertion.

In a lawsuit file this week he claims the violations aren’t treated as civil offenses they are treated as criminal offenses, not civil suits.

He says the cases are handled by the prosecutor and heard by the same judge who handles other criminal matters in the Municipal Court.  I just wonder how this will play out.
